BT Phone boxes – Adoption scheme decision

BT have finished their review of the Adopt a kiosk (phone box) scheme, which includes the two kiosks in Embsay and Eastby.

Published: 11 December 2025

The notification from BT:
The review period has now completed, and the outcome was that BT have concluded to retain the public telephone services at both kiosks:   01756792064 and 01756794559. As such, we have no option but to cancel the registration of interest to adopt these two kiosks at this time.

Below are the decisions for both kiosks:

Decision

Having carefully considered your representations, alongside other data, I am satisfied there is sufficient “evidence of a reasonable need for a Public Call Box” on Elm Tree Square, Embsay, Skipton. We will therefore continue to operate a call box at this location and will cease current plans for its removal.

We reserve the right to monitor usage of our call boxes and to re-propose removal of this call box in the future if it becomes eligible under Ofcom’s criteria.

This is our final decision – the outcome of this review will be published on our website.

Decision

Having carefully considered your representations, alongside other data, I am satisfied there is sufficient “evidence of a reasonable need for a Public Call Box” at Masons Arms Car Park, Barden Road, Eastby, Skipton. We will therefore continue to operate a call box at this location and will cease current plans for its removal.

We reserve the right to monitor usage of our call boxes and to re-propose removal of this call box in the future if it becomes eligible under Ofcom’s criteria.

The Parish Council would like to extend its thanks to those residents who expressed an interest in the adoption scheme and who put forward ideas for their repurposing.
