BT Phone boxes – Adoption scheme update
The adoption of the BT kiosks in Embsay and Eastby is currently on hold.
Published: 26 September 2025
The adoption of BT kiosks across North Yorkshire is currently on hold. This pause is due to North Yorkshire Council’s appeal against the proposed removal of two red phone boxes in Embsay and Eastby, along with several others across the region.
If the appeal is successful, both kiosks will remain in use as active pay-phones. However, BT has confirmed to North Yorkshire Council that the Parish Council has expressed interest in adopting the kiosks, should BT proceed with their proposed removal. At that stage, the Parish Council would be able to move forward with the adoption process for both boxes.
We will provide further updates as soon as they become available.
